Laura Dern enjoyed some quality mother-daughter time with her teenager Jaya Harper in New York City on Sunday While on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2022, Laura explained that her own experiences of becoming an actress at 11 have influenced her decision to make Jaya wait. Laura shares Jaya with her ex-husband Ben Harper, with whom she also has a 23-year-old son called Ellery, who wants to be a musician like his father.While on Ellen's show Laura said of her daughter that 'I'm so happy that she's waiting and wants to go to school but really knows in her heart she wants to act.'
The actress acknowledged that Jaya 'does often say:"You didn't wait!" and yeah, basically, I make her wait.' She added however that she 'forced' her parents to let her act, 'and I lied and I pushed and I lied about age.'
