One person is dead and another seriously injured after a single-vehicle crash on Highway 403 near Ancaster.

Emergency crews responded to the on-ramp between the Lincoln Alexander Valley Parkway and Highway 403 around 6:20 p.m. on Monday for reports of a collision involving a trapped patient.

Supt. Dave Thompson of the Hamilton Paramedic Service said two people were initially taken to hospital with serious injuries. As of 7:45 p.m., one victim — the passenger — had died, Aurora OPP said via Twitter. The driver remained in critical, life-threatening condition, police said.Highway 403 was closed for several hours overnight before fully reopening around 6:30 a.m.
