The Opposition is warning that the province’s health care system remains vulnerable to cyber attack.
Health critic Paul Dinn charges that the provincial government ignored a warning about the cyber attack last October just before one such attack paralyzed the province’s health care system. Dinn says a Telegram report indicates that the former health minister was warned a year ahead of the attack that ransomware was a significant and increasing threat to health care operations and patient safety.
That followed another warning in September of 2020 when a separate warning was issued by international cybersecurity experts according to Dinn. He fears with the health care system more reliant than ever on virtual care, the risk of another cyberattack is “still very real.”
