The Golden State Warriors have won three straight games since losing to the Lakers and have incredible vibes at this moment.
There are reasons to be skeptical, obviously. The other role players stepping up have hidden the fact that Jordan Poole is producing nowhere near the level his contract demands. The aforementioned three wins are over the hard-tanking Rockets, the short-handed Wolves and the maybe-soft-tanking Blazers. The six teams behind the Warriors' tightly contested fifth seed in the West are all 4-6 over their last 10, with three on a losing streak, and only one with a win in their last game.
But good teams — forget about ones defending a title — still need to pick up gimmes, especially given the crowded state of the West. Those three paltry wins, coupled with some well-timed losses elsewhere, have jumped the Dubs from 10th to fifth in the conference. Thompson is right: When healthy, there aren't any teams scarier than the Warriors on paper. If they continue to look like this while down Curry, Wiggins and Gary Payton II, there's no need to fear the rest of the conference. The Warriors have been tremendous at home all year, sitting at 25-7 in the Chase Center. Don't look now, but they're only a game out of homecourt advantage in the first round.
