The first ever Ring of Fire motorcycle rally was due to roll into town June 13-15. • In other sports news, it was reported that Avon View High School had enough interest to field two girls’ rugby teams this year.

Cecil Dole, of the Windsor RCMP Detachment, reminded Robbie Metcalf and Laurie Lee Smith of the important safety message that they learned from Elmer the elephant during the closing exercises of the Windsor Jaycettes’ Child Safety Program in 1973. - File• The Department of Northern Affairs announced Windsor’s Fort Edward site ownership was being returned to the federal government so it could be developed as a historic site.
• The recently opened Black Bear Beverage Tavern and El Cherro’s Steak House was reported to be the “most modern in Nova Scotia.” The main room featured antique wood that was obtained by searching both ends of Hants County, the ceiling featured recessive lights “that give a restful glow,” the entire floor was carpeted and the tables and chairs were of the latest design.
Construction line foreman, Windsor’s Charlie Haley, retired on April 1, 1973, after 48 years of service. - File • Showing at the Imperial Theatre in Windsor was such films as The Mechanic and Red Sun, both starring Charles Bronson, The Family Jewels, starring Jerry Lewis, and the Possession of Joel Delany, starring Shirley MacLaine. The theatre was also showing the first restricted full-length animated cartoon feature, Fritz the Cat, at 8 p.m. over three days.
