At 94, his grandmother was mentally razor-sharp, but she spiralled rapidly after she became sick, a month after she arrived at the care home, Mr Waldman said.It was difficult for Mr Waldman to get accurate information about her condition, he said, the care home was evasive about her illness but the medical notes made clear it was textbook Covid-19 symptoms.
He said while there were problems with the way care homes responded, many were left in a “black hole” without resources, without training and without PPE. The families’ comments come as Nadra Ahmed, the chair of the National Care Association which represents small and medium care home providers, toldthe former Health Secretary’s account of what happened in care homes “bears no resemblance to the facts”.
