Embracing this year’s Halifax Pride Festival theme “Reconnect”, Shenanigans looks forward to doing just that with fans and taking the Drag Queens of Comedy out on the road for a Maritime tour with Rouge Fatale, Anna Mona Pia and Stevie Von Snaps and keeping Pride going beyond the month of June and 11 days in July.
“Shayla is very loud. She’s very proud. She’s hilarious. She will slay the house down boots,” says the performer, explaining the slang term means awesomely hilarious. “When I first started doing drag, I would just do a performance of Jennifer Lopez, or whatever it was. But then once I went on the microphone, I heard people in the audience laugh, and it just caught on.
For Halifax drag artist Shayla Shenanigans, doing comedy and music onstage provides two hours of escape for the audience, and life-affirming therapy for the performer. - Tim KrochakBesides performing, Shenanigans adores the process of crafting material, and estimates she’s written 5,000 jokes and sold a fifth of that material to others.
