fell short by more than 18,000 votes. These candidates are asking judges to overturn the results and order new elections. Most of those candidates lost their races by 12,000 to 29,000 votes, according to official county results.
"If they ended up voting, it's clear that it wasn't so onerous that they weren't able to effectively overcome it," he said. Four of the Republican election judges who spoke with the Chronicle said investigators with the Texas Rangers or the Texas Attorney General's office had reached out to them to get their account of Election Day, though none of the judges who are Democrats said they had been contacted.
"We didn't meet the early voting projections, which meant those people who didn't vote early actually held over and voted on Election Day," Tatum said."So, there was enough supplies out in the field. It turns out that they weren't in the right locations." In one of the lawsuits, attorneys for Republican judicial candidate Erin Lunceford, who lost by 2,743 votes, have attached signed declarations from judges at the 29 polling places, all of them Republicans, estimating how many voters were turned away at each location.
For example, at the Houston Community College Alief Hayes Campus polling location, the Republican alternate judge wrote that the center ran out of paper and turned away 100 voters. At 15 of the 29 locations, there was a clear match between what judges told the Chronicle and when county data showed the polling place had gaps in voting.
Of the 29 locations, 55 percent were in precincts won by former President Donald Trump. Thirteen locations were in precincts Trump won by more than 10 points, three were won by Trump by fewer than 10 points. Eleven were located in precincts President Joe Biden won by more than 10 points and two were in precincts Biden captured by fewer than 10 points.
