Google to build new subsea cable from SA to Oz in bid to ease internet woes
US tech behemoth Google is building a new subsea cable that will connect South Africa, and a host of other African countries, to Australia. This brings much-needed capacity to protect South Africa from future internet outages.
The Umoja subsea cable will be anchored in Kenya and run inland on the continent through Uganda, Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and finally SA, Google The fibre-optic cable will then run 10 000km along the sea floor of the Indian Ocean, before anchoring on the west coast of Australia.South Africans need to be in the know if we want to create a prosperous future.
