A global technical issue affecting airlines' check-in systems is causing delays for FlySafair and LIFT passengers at South African airports.
The Airports Company South Africa ( ACSA ) has alerted passengers about a global systems issue affecting FlySafair and LIFT flights. Technicians from the airlines and their service providers are working diligently to resolve the problem, but there is no estimated time for a complete fix. This technical glitch is currently interfering with the airlines' check-in systems, leading to delays and longer-than-usual check-in processing times.
Passengers traveling with FlySafair and LIFT airlines are encountering extensive queues at check-in counters. ACSA urges passengers on domestic flights to arrive at least two hours before their scheduled departure time. For the most up-to-date information regarding their flights, passengers are advised to download the ACSA mobile app and subscribe to flight notifications. Alternatively, they can contact FlySafair and LIFT Airlines directly for any airline-specific inquiries. Lift Airline acknowledged experiencing minor delays over the weekend due to a global issue affecting its system provider. This issue impacted the printing of baggage tags and boarding passes. Despite the challenges, the airline's teams effectively managed the situation, minimizing the disruption to their customers. Lift Airline stated that the technical issue is currently being resolved. All their Cape Town check-in counters are now fully operational, and they anticipate the remainder to be restored overnight, resulting in minimal impact on Monday's operations. ACSA clarified that the outage was triggered by a power trip at the municipal level. The local municipality is currently investigating the cause of the disruption. ACSA emphasized that it is not responsible for identifying the source of the issue, as the power failure is beyond their control. The airport's backup generators automatically activated within 15 seconds of the power loss, ensuring uninterrupted airport operations. All generators have been successfully verified to be functioning correctly and are fully operational
