Despite new developments and trendy bars, girls are still engaging in prostitution on the streets of Glasgow, facing risks and lack of police support.

Just a few hundred yards from the Barrowlands Ballroom but now close to plush new housing developments and trendy bars dozens of girls are still selling sex on the streets for money. The same streets where Emma Caldwell would stand 19 years ago. While there may appear to be fewer women, nothing much has changed. The women still get into cars with strange men to make as little as £10 and risk never returning if he’s the next Iain Packer.

And they still don’t believe police will help if they are robbed or attacked or worse. I’m with Amanda Hainey, who began selling sex at just 15, to speak to the women standing alone in the dark looking for punters who will pay cash in exchange for sex. Jamie Lee has worked as a sex worker in the city for 20 years. The 38-year-old mum of one, stood shivering in the cold temperatures on a corner near Bell Street waiting for men to pick her up. Passing punters in cars gave the nod, pulled up and some even flashed their lights impatiently while we spoke to her and she smoked a cigarette to try and keep war
