‘The main thing we tried to get across that day was how hard we practised every day,’ says Craig Cunningham. ‘Some of our games were easier than our practices’
The Vancouver Giants are in the midst of their best season in years, and various players have cited Cunningham, along with fellow former Giants stars Brendan Gallagher and Neil Manning, coming to speak to the current roster at training camp last August as one of the things that has spurred them on to success.
“I’m a big believer that success starts at the top, and people like Ron and Sultan and the others in charge always put the person before the player and that means so much. You want to win for them. It makes the dog days of the season and the hard practices worth it.” That team, which featured Cunningham, Gallagher and Manning as well Kevin Connauton, James Henry and Lance Bouma, advanced to the Western Conference final.
“I think the main thing we tried to get across that day was how hard we practised every day. Some of our games were easier than our practices,” Cunningham recalled of the training camp meeting. “We also had a close group, but we were so competitive with one another. We had guys have fights in practice, but those guys would end up at White Spot or wherever afterwards having a burger and a milkshake together.
