Vancouver was sloppy off the top against Kelowna on Friday
How the Vancouver Giants come out in the first period tonight against the Kamloops Blazers will be telling.
The Giants , who open a weekend doubleheader against the Blazers with a visit to Kamloops this evening , were sloppy for the first half against the Kelowna Rockets on Friday at the Langley Events Centre but eventually settled down and came out with a 7-4 win before an announced crowd of 3,954. “It was a crazy first period. The first 10 minutes were very bad for us,” said Vancouver centre Milos Roman, whose team was down 2-1 after just 3:12 and trailed 4-3 by the 4:47 mark of the second period. “We found our way back. It’s a huge two points going towards a conference win. With the win, the Giants kept pace with the Everett Silvertips in the race for top spot in the Western Conference. Everett is two points ahead with a game in hand.
The Silvertips beat the Tri-City Americans 2-1 on Friday. They’re home to the Seattle Thunderbirds on Saturday and then idle on Sunday. That’s when Vancouver will pick up its game in hand, with that visit from Kamloops to the LEC .Vancouver has already clinched the B.C. Division, so they’re assured one of the top two seeds in the first round. The top three teams from B.C. and the U.S. Division qualify for the playoffs, along with the two next best teams.
Other Vancouver goals came from: Roman, with his 24th of the season; Dallas Hines, with his eighth; Alex Kannok Leipert, with his third; Jadon Joseph, with his 18th; Davis Koch, with his 25th; and Tristen Nielsen, with his 11th.Nolan Foote had two goals for Kelowna .
