The Gauteng Provincial Government has launched its new e-Panic app to combat crime and persistent domestic violence issues.
In a significant move to bolster safety and security, the Gauteng Provincial Government has launched its new e-Panic app, Gauteng e-Panic. This initiative aims to combat crime and address the persistent issues of domestic violence in the region. The app is available free of charge and promises quick assistance for residents in emergencies., Bonginkosi Dhlamini, urged all residents to take advantage of this free resource.
“The Gauteng Panic Button is a testament to the progress made by the provincial government to create a safer environment for everyone in the province. By downloading and using this app, you can protect yourself and your loved ones in times of emergency,” Dhlamini stated. The e-Panic app offers both a physical device and an electronic version available on Android and iOS platforms. This dual approach ensures that residents have a convenient and accessible way to stay safe.
“The Gauteng Panic Button is not just a tool; it’s a lifeline. It is an initiative by the Gauteng Provincial Government to ensure that all our residents are safe at all times,” Dhlamini emphasised.The launch of the e-Panic app comes at a critical time. Recent statistics reveal that the murder rate in Gauteng has risen by three percent in the fourth quarter of 2023 compared to the previous year. Nearly 1800 people were killed, including 214 women and 50 children.
“We are deeply worried about other serious crimes that fall under these categories such as murder, attempted murder as well as robbery aggravated as they remain stubbornly high,” he said during a briefing to the Community Safety Portfolio Committee on crime stats.To ensure that residents can easily access the e-Panic app, the government has provided straightforward registration instructions:: Visit Google Play or the App Store and search for “Gauteng Panic Button.
