While the 46-year-old Reynolds grew up as a fan of the Vancouver Canucks, he was also in town to get a first-hand look at the rink and also has a soft spot for the Senators. His appearance here was no accident and is only going to fuel talk about his purchase of the team. Inner Circle Sports worked with late owner Eugene Melnyk when he did a refinancing of the club’s debt during the NHL lockout in 2013. The group has also worked with the Arizona Coyotes, New York Islanders, New Jersey Devils and Florida Panthers.

“The Ottawa Senators are an NHL team and I am trying to do that,” Reynolds said when asked about buying the team by Fallon. “It’s very expensive so I need a partner with really deep pockets. It’s called a consortium when you form a group to buy an entity, and it’s such a fancy way of saying, ‘I need a sugar mommy or sugar daddy.’ ”

“I love Ottawa. I grew up in Vancouver, but I also grew up in Ottawa and I spent a long time in Vanier, which is a little town right outside Ottawa,” Reynolds said.Article content Normally, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman doesn’t like the process being public but Reynolds comments won’t bother him one bit. It doesn’t hurt the league at all to have Reynolds go on U.S. national television and express interest in the Senators because it drives up the value.
