Tobi Nussbaum, the chief executive officer of the NCC, said it will be up to the new owner to sign off on the lease. League sources have told this newspaper potential buyers have been told by the league they have to build a downtown arena. Nussbaum is right because there’s no question both sides want this deal to get done. He said that negotiating with a team that is in the process of selling does add another layer to talks but the reality is it won’t be a roadblock to getting a lease in place.

“We haven’t engaged in conversation with potential buyers. That’s not our role at this stage,” Nussbaum said. “Mr. Seaman and I are eager to meet the new owners once that process is completed.
