Josh Norris won\u0027t be asked to shoulder the load, but he will be welcomed back with open arms.

As the Ottawa Senators prepare to open a home-and-home series with the Pittsburgh Penguins Wednesday night at the Canadian Tire Centre, the expectation is the club’s top centre will suit up for his first game since suffering a left shoulder injury Oct. 22nd against the Arizona Coyotes.Sign up to receive daily headline news from Ottawa Citizen, a division of Postmedia Network Inc.By clicking on the sign up button you consent to receive the above newsletter from Postmedia Network Inc.

“It’s huge. He’s such a good player, he’s great for the room because he’s such a great guy,” centre Tim Stutzle said before the Senators dropped a 2-1 decision to the St. Louis Blues Monday. “He’ll be able to help us score goals, that’s for sure. The Senators didn’t skate Tuesday after arriving back from St. Louis in the wee hours of the morning so a final decision on Norris won’t be made until after Wednesday’s skate.

The concern for the Norris was high because it’s the same shoulder that required surgery to repair it after the 2019 IIHF world junior championship. He signed with the club later that year after spending six months rehabilitating and getting ready to return. The Senators were surprised Norris didn’t need surgery because they initially thought that ultimately would be the case. The two specialists both indicated the organization could try the rehab route while also trying to get the strength back in the shoulder.Article content
