GARRIOCH: All signs pointing to Josh Norris making his return to the Senators against Penguins

Josh Norris won\u0027t be asked to shoulder the load, but he will be welcomed back with open arms.

The plan was for Norris to have one more meeting with the doctors Tuesday just to make sure all systems are go. Barring a last-minute change of heart, he’ll skate in his sixth game of the season against Pittsburgh with the Senators trying to get back on track.Article content

The only timeline Dorion gave in November was that the two sides would revisit Norris’ rehab in January and here we are with him ready to make a return. If the decision has been made this month he needed surgery then the recovery time would have been six months. Norris missed 15 games last season with an injury to the same shoulder and the club took every precaution before he suited up for the again. That injury was different because it was suffered in a collision with Carolina’s Andrei Svechnikov.

Norris has been participating on contract drills for at least three weeks and as coach D.J. Smith noted there’s no concerns about conditioning with him because he works hard.
