The Ottawa Redblacks will have a long off-season to think about the mistakes, the disappointments, the ones that got away and the 0-for-9 home-field struggles…
The Redblacks finished their season Saturday just like they did too many games, on the losing side. This time, it was a 23-16 loss, at TD Place, to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Nine losses in nine home games? Four wins in 2022? Ten wins in three seasons? Embarrassing. Yeah, safe to say much more was expected. Safe to say there will be off-season changes.Sign up to receive daily headline news from Ottawa Citizen, a division of Postmedia Network Inc.
Something we haven’t seen enough of this season: The Redblacks pulled a trick play out of their hat early in the second quarter. Instead of kicking, punter Richie Leone lobbed a ball into the arms of Pruneau for a 23-yard gain, extending a drive. As they’ve done too often this season, the Redblacks settled for a Ward field goal, from 29 yards.
The Redblacks got the ball back twice in the final three minutes. They turned the ball over both times with missed third-down gambles.
