German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock meets with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken at the State Department.KARUIZAWA, Japan – Foreign ministers from the Group of Seven group of wealthy nations will likely discuss their “common and concerted” approach to China when they meet from Sunday , reflecting shared concern about Beijing’s actions, a senior US State Department official said.
Japan, the only Asian member of the grouping, has deepening worries about China’s growing might in the Asia-Pacific and is particularly concerned about any military action against Taiwan. In interviews after he visited China in April, Mr Macron cautioned against being drawn into a crisis over Taiwan driven by an “American rhythm and a Chinese overreaction”.European foreign policy officials on Friday urged China not to use force over Taiwan, taking a tough stance.
There would likely be a discussion on how the members could continue to take a “common and concerted approach” to China, the official said.Recent G-7 statements have included calls for candid and constructive engagement with Beijing while recognising that “individually all the G-7 members have deep economic relationships” with the world’s second-largest economy.
