Leeds United were among a host of clubs linked with Ao Tanaka but the Japan international failed to secure a transfer away from Fortuna Dusseldorf
Fortuna Dusseldorf lowered their demands for Leeds United-linked Ao Tanaka in order to agree a summer transfer. That is according to German outlet Rheinische Post, who claim the failure to agree a deal has proven to be an 'absolute setback' for the Bundesliga side.
Borussia Monchengladbach and Stuttgart were also linked to the 24-year-old, and the midfielder's departure would have been used to finance other transfers. Sporting director Klaus Allofs was willing to sanction Tanaka's exit as long as it brought in a profit, and reduced their asking price in an attempt to tempt a buyer.
