Law enforcement across the state is extending condolences to the family of Robert D. “Bobby” Timmons, former executive director of the Alabama Sheriffs Association.
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Law enforcement across the state is extending condolences to the family of Robert D. “Bobby” Timmons, longtime executive director of the Alabama Sheriffs Association.Timmons served as executive director from 1975 until his retirement in 2022.
Before his time with the Alabama Sheriffs Association, he served in the Alabama House of Representatives from 1970 to 1974, and as special assistant to Jefferson County Sheriff Mel Bailey. He then went on to travel with George Wallace during his campaign for president and worked with him on many legislative issues during his governorship.
Timmons was appointed law enforcement liaison to the governor in 1999 by then-Gov. Don Siegelman and served in the position until 2003.“When I was named to this position in October 2022, I was humbled and honored to follow such an icon. I may never fill his shoes, but I will continue to represent the Sheriffs of our State in the best light possible in honor of Mr. Timmons.”
