The Consumer Council has warned people to be cautious as prices are still nearly 10% higher than last year
The price of some food products in Northern Ireland shops are beginning to drop, although are still nearly 10% higher than this time last year.
However, according to the British Retail Consortium, the price of the average food basket has reduced recently by 0.1%, but remains 9.9% higher than they were at this time last year. She said that the Cost of Living crisis has caused strain on household budgets across Northern Ireland, with those on a lower income having to sacrifice quality and quantity or skip meals in order to ensure their children are able to eat.
"We can see from our consumer research how this is causing a strain on Northern Ireland household budgets, with many low-income consumers having to sacrifice on the quality of the food they buy, and the quantity, with some reducing their portion sizes or skipping meals completely to ensure their children eat enough.
