Markstrom was a stalwart for the Flames last season, posting a 37-15-9 record with a 2.22 goals-against average, a .922 save percentage and a league-leading nine shutouts. He finished second in balloting for the Vezina Trophy.
If he isn’t available, backup Dan Vladar would be between the pipes against the Avs. The second-stringer was sharp in exhibition action this fall, allowing a grand total of six goals in four appearances.Not on any night. But especially not on the first night of a new campaign. “You’ve been waiting a long time, ever since pretty much the day after it ended last year,” Markstrom said earlier this week. “You want to get back at it and you feel like you have more to give.”
