The gritty left-hander could be an intriguing fit for the Flames’ fourth line — either at centre or on the wing. While his most productive campaigns are in his rearview, he has a track record as a trusted penalty-killer. This training-camp invite will put pressure on Adam Ruzicka, who remains unsigned as a restricted free agent. When main camp opens Sept. 21 at the Saddledome, Ruzicka should be battling Eakin, Kevin Rooney and others for fourth-line centre duties.
Eakin, listed at 6-foot and 196 lb., has so far totalled 110 goals, 146 assists and 278 penalty minutes in 701 regular-season outings at the NHL level. He’s also logged 50 games in the playoffs, including a trip to the Stanley Cup final with the Vegas Golden Knights in 2018.
