CAPE BRETON POST FILEDONKIN — A Good Friday fish cake supper is raising money for health-care advocacy.
"It hasn't been a significant investment but Dennis and I have invested some of … our own money into this," said Snow."Unbeknownst to me, Stephen Tobin and my friend Myrna got together and decided they were going to do this fish cakes and beans fundraiser to help with our advocacy efforts." The fish cakes and beans fundraiser will be delivered on Good Friday, April 7. CONTRIBUTED - ContributedCharlene Snow had gone to Cape Breton Regional Hospital emergency department on Dec. 30, 2022, with flu-like symptoms which included a sore jaw. After a seven-hour wait in an extremely packed waiting room, the devoted grandmother was told she wouldn't be seen until morning. It was around 8 p.m. and the 67-year-old left. About an hour later, at home, her heart stopped and she died.
"I spent a lot of time on the phone with people who reached out and had a similar experience.
"Charlene’s story was, in many ways, a huge catalyst for change, offering a grassroots approach to hearing first-hand about the significant issues within our health-care system and more importantly, identifying potential solutions, all based on the input and heart-wrenching stories told directly by Nova Scotians," said Tobin.
