Forest Haven Memorial Gardens in Sydney. SaltWire Network staffSYDNEY — A Supreme Court decision that ordered the reinstatement of a Sydney funeral home director’s licence is generating mixed reaction with two principal players insisting they did nothing wrong.

The board concluded Curry did not make his own identification in accordance with the Embalmers and Funeral Directors Act. Curry was not represented by a lawyer when he appeared before the board in February 2022 but was represented by lawyer Stephen Jamael when he appeared before Gabriel in October 2022.

Kortney Adams, executive manager of the Nova Scotia Board of Registration of Embalmers and Funeral Directors, said the board continues to review Gabriel’s’ decision. The board argued before Gabriel that Curry had a duty to personally verify the remains before cremation.
