Victoria Fire received a report of the fire at 3 a.m. and once on scene, found the building consumed by fire
Victoria Fire was called at 3 a.m. to Ricky’s All Day Grill at 2900 Douglas Street, at Burnside Road.Battalion Chief Tim Loewen described the fire as large, engulfing every area of the 3,595-square-foot building, with intense heat.No one was inside the building at the time of the blaze.
After the flames were extinguished, parts of the roof continued to smoulder into the morning rush-hour period. “This fire was so large,” said Loewen. “It’s very difficult for us without deeper investigation to determine where it started or what started it.” As one bystander watched firefighters water down hot spots, he reminisced that in years gone by, Ricky’s, which is licensed, was a place he and buddies would buy buckets of Corona beers for cheap.Northbound traffic on Douglas opened just after 8 a.m. but southbound remained closed at 10 a.m. as fire trucks and emergency vehicles remained on the roadside.
