On Thursday, more than two dozen mourners gathered inside St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church in Mississauga as priest Jan Kobzan led a Polish-language service including a number of prayers and songs. Kurpiewska’s family, including her mother Dorotoa, walked in alongside her casket with tear-filled eyes. During the service, family members could be seen comforting Dorota, who sobbed throughout.

Reading a statement from the family, Priest Kobzan, thanked those who could attend and others who watched virtually. Tributes to Kurpiewska have poured in over social media, at a memorial inside High Park station and on an online fundraiser“Nessa, you were an angel and an inspiration to us all! You taught us a lot of patience and how to overcome any obstacle or challenge,” read one message at the station memorial.Following the service, Kurpiewska’s family filed out of the church into the snow, still in tears over the loss of woman who has been described as “full of life.
