Police have launched a manhunt for Thabo Bester after DNA tests revealed that a body found burned in his cell in March last year was not him emmareyn reports
suburb of Hyde Park, 250 miles away. Local media reported that Bester has been spotted shopping in the city’s upmarket Sandton area and has been romantically linked to a prominent celebrity doctor.
The news that he was not the man found dead in the cell was first revealed by the South African news outlet, indicating an elaborate prison escape that may have been assisted by prison officials. The report said he had used a laptop he had for his studies in prison to run a multimillion-rand event and production company.
At one point he addressed a conference from his prison cell, wearing a tie and telling other attendees that he was speaking from New York, the report claimed.“No stone will be left unturned in getting to the bottom of Thabo Bester’s escape and there will be serious consequences for any party involved,” said Mr Nxumalo.
A psychologist who interviewed Bester in 2011 described him as a con man who appeared to have got worse in prison. “[In 2011] he was not at the level of what we’re seeing now, and it seems he’s done a lot better in prison than he did out of prison in terms of the financial crimes. When he was free, he would lure people to steal their laptop and phones — very petty theft and robbery,” Dr Gerard Labuschagne told“However, it seems he has a financial backer.
