Eskom has urged all customers still using KRN1 meters to complete the rollover as the meters will no longer accept tokens after November 24.
AS the looming deadline of Sunday, November 24, hangs over a number of households using prepaid electricity meters, the eThekwini Municipality has reported success in completing its Token Identifier Rollover on all its active-purchasing meters throughout the city.
Municipal spokesperson Gugu Sisilana said that during the rollover, the City was able to identify non-active meters that require attention and to be put back online. To address this, an extensive meter sweep aimed at ensuring compliance across all meters was initiated. “As part of these corrective measures, any faulty meters will be replaced with a meter that is already programmed with the new Token Identifier . With the impending deadline of November 24, the City assures customers that it does not anticipate any disruptions to their services after the deadline,” said Sisilana.Meanwhile, Eskom has urged all customers still using KRN1 to complete the rollover as, 'The meters will no longer accept electricity tokens after Sunday, November 24.
According to the national power supplier, customers with meters still on KRN1 have likely not purchased electricity for more than six months or may be using unauthorised tokens bought from criminal syndicates. “To prevent the meter from becoming inoperable, losing power and incurring replacement costs, it is critical that all customers, including those who have not purchased electricity in the last six months or more, buy electricity tokens from authorised vendors by November 24. This will provide them with two sets of 20-digit codes needed to recode and update their meters,” said Eskom’s group executive for distribution, Monde Bala.• Enter 1844 6744 0738 4377 2416 on your meter keypad.
