Political parties are taking to social media during the 2019 election vote counting process.JOHANNESBURG - On 8 May, South Africans headed to the polls in their numbers to make their mark in what analysts have described as the most pivotal election since the advent of democracy in 1994.The Independent Electoral Commission said on Thursday that they would have 90 percent of the results in by 10pm. On Friday morning, however, a quarter of the total votes remained to be counted.

Although partial votes on Friday morning showed the ANC were headed toward election victory, the party was on course for its worst performance in a national poll in its 25 years in government. While preliminary results have been trickling in from the IEC Results Operation Centre, political parties have taken to social media to express their feelings thus far.The ANC was the first political party to break through the one-million mark and, while the total vote count stood at 78,11 percent, had claimed 7,107,944 national votes.Up until this point, the DA was able to maintain its control over the Western Cape with 1,078,173 votes thus far.
