Mavis Zulu is seething eight months after having completed all the required paperwork in May, ahead of her retirement on August 31 – she is yet to see any of her pension money.

It seems like no one cares. This is someone who has been loyal to the same hospital for 41 years, yet they are not treating her right. Busisiwe said: “I started calling the Government Employees Pension Fund offices in September to follow up on how far the process was to allow her to receive her first pension payment. I called daily and I was told that everything was in order, and that there was just a delay.”“The GEPF’s system showed that my mother had only worked for the hospital for 26 years.
