In a world of disinformation, rising autocracy and corruption, good journalism has seldom been as necessary, as difficult and as dangerous.There are increases around the world in the number of journalists murdered or jailed.
At this World Press Freedom Day, there are names and faces that demonstrate the hard reality of journalism in a dangerous time. The regime called that espionage. Cedric Alviani, a regional director with Reporters Without Borders, properly calls that ridiculous. He was on assignment for the WSJ when arrested March 29 in Yekaterinburg by Russia’s Federal Security Service.
