This week, according CBC News, Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s government has correctly concluded that natural gas needs to be part of the province’s electricity generation mix to avoid brownouts and blackouts. Both the G-7, of which Canada is a member, and the European Union, classify nuclear power, which does not emit greenhouse gases, and natural gas, which burns at about half the carbon dioxide-intensity of coal, as transitional forms of green energy, particularly when used to replace electricity generation from coal-fired power plants.
