The Rockets kept the bulk of the team from last season, as Sibusiso Vilakazi was the only new signings while Usuthu gave first starts to newcomers, Thendo Makumela, Riaan Hanamub, George Maluleka and Gabadinho Mhango. Fellow new signing Dumisani Zuma was not in the squad.
Brandon Truter's charges continued to threaten as Maluleka came close to breaking the deadlock six minutes later with a free-kick from the edge of the box that dipped slightly over the crossbar. The game opened up in the second stanza and Mhango had a chance to break the deadlock for the visitors just before the hour-mark with a powerful strike from the edge of the box that was repelled by goalkeeper Melusi Buthelezi.
