Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has clarified his comments about his preference for Cassius Mailula to play the U-23 national team instead of Bafana Bafana. SLSiya Read more:
Mailula, 21, was eligible to play for the national U-23 side that was bidding to qualify for the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations, a tournament which doubles up as qualifiers for 2024 Olympic Games, in the final qualifier round against Congo-Brazzaville.
"Maybe I was misinterpreted because a lot of people thought I was saying Cassius is not ready for Bafana," Mokwena told the media in a press conference after their goalless draw against Swallows. "What I've said and if you remember, even in the beginning parts of the season, I've said this very clearly, offensive players get better by being on the pitch and I would have loved to see Cassius on the pitch for 90 minutes against Congo," he said.
