'Double-parked' Grade 8 spaces leave pupils without high school placement

The Western Cape has more than 30 000 Grade 8 placements that are currently taken up by children with multiple school acceptance letters.

More than 30 000 Grade 8 spaces are"double-parked", with pupils accepted at more than one school, while many others have been rejected by the schools they applied for on account of lack of space. The Western Cape Education Department has assured parents that spaces will open up, but many say they are confused and angry at the apparent inequality in the application process.

One Cape Town mother applied to five schools in the southern suburbs, only to be told her child had been rejected by all of them. Among the schools applied to were Pinelands High School, Westerford High School and Rustenberg Girls' High School.South Africans need to be in the know if we want to create a prosperous future.
