The SABC Bill, which faced withdrawal by Communications and Digital Technologies Minister Solly Malatsi due to concerns about the public broadcaster’s funding model and ministerial powers, has not been officially withdrawn. Deputy President Paul Mashatile has confirmed this in a letter to National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza.

Paul Mashatile , Deputy President and leader of government business, has clarified that the SABC Bill has not been withdrawn. While Communications and Digital Technologies Minister Solly Malatsi withdrew the bill in November due to concerns about the public broadcaster’s funding model and the powers it grants to the minister, Cabinet has since advised that the bill has not been withdrawn and that Minister Malatsi must seek formal approval to withdraw it.

This decision comes after a Cabinet briefing this week, where it was explained that the bill is an executive bill and that new ministers are expected to follow standard protocols
