DA calls on De Lille to explain shake-up of SA Tourism board
Tourism Minister Patricia de Lille has removed SA Tourism board chairperson Makhosazana Khanyile and her deputy, Lizelle Dominique Jordaan, due to board meetings at a cost of R900 000 in the first quarter of 2024.board chairperson Makhosazana Khanyile and deputy chairperson, Lizelle Dominique Jordaan, due to nearly R1 million being spent on board meetings within six months.
"The full details of the allegations against them remain unclear," Ismail said in a statement, adding that the DA will request De Lille’s appearance before the committee to explain the events leading to the removal.De Lille’s decision stems from concerns over the number of meetings held by the SAT board - 27 in the first quarter of 2024, at a cost of R900 000. This exceeded the board’s allocated budget of R1.44 million for the entire 2024/25 financial year.
The minister added that they would remain as ordinary board members, with Gregory Davids stepping in as the new chairperson.However, Khanyile and Jordaan have reportedly accused De Lille of damaging their reputations, claiming the minister did not provide them with an opportunity to explain themselves.
