The presidency says this is a ‘priority proclamation’ that Ramaphosa wants to submit to the 5th parliament before it ends on Wednesday

President Cyril Ramaphosa will give the National Prosecuting Authority extra power to go after those implicated in state capture, by signing the proclamation to establish the new investigative directorate before parliament closes on Wednesday

In his state of the nation address in February, he promised the establishment of the investigative directorate, to be housed in the office of the national director of public prosecutions Shamila Batohi. “It is a significant step in our quest to strengthen measures we have at our disposal to fight crime and corruption,” said presidency spokesperson Khusela Diko.
