A woman in Singapore ordered takeaway from a Thai restaurant and pretended to have made a bank transfer. When confronted, she paid with a physical card. Months later, she returned to the restaurant and paid the outstanding amount, apologizing for her actions.

On July 6, 2024, a woman ordered takeaway worth $196.20 from Khao Hom by Rung Mama at East Coast Road. She showed the employee proof of a bank transfer on her phone screen and left. However, the restaurant owner, Ms Cai, couldn't find the transfer record in her bank statement the following week. Although the CCTV didn't capture the woman's face, when she messaged Ms Cai to check the bank transfer, Ms Cai noticed the money hadn't been transferred.

The employee stopped the woman from leaving and demanded payment. The woman then paid using a physical bank card. Ms Cai suspected the woman might have tried to repeat the trick and took a video of her. Surprisingly, the woman returned to the eatery on January 3 and paid the outstanding amount. She also wrote an apology letter, admitting to her mistake and explaining that she couldn't think straight due to an eating disorder. Ms Cai has since trained her employees to identify authentic PayNow transfer records
