CUPE rep says union will fight ‘for as long as it takes’
A large gathering of CUPE educational support staff workers and allies from other unions gathered early Friday outside Sault MPP Ross Romano’s office to protest the provincial government’s imposing of a contract through new legislation passed Thursday.
CUPE has called for an 11 per cent increase, which amounts to $3.25 more an hour for its support staffers. Friday’s rally will continue outside MPP Romano’s office and at the Ronald A. Irwin Civic Centre until 3:30 p.m. “It’s moved the labour movement back years. The fact that the Ford government can come in and do this is just devastating and we’re not going to stand for it.”
