Parents are advised to make alternative child-care arrangements, should the job action continue

All four school boards operating in the Greater Sudbury area say they’re planning to keep schools open Friday amid plans by a union representing 55,000 Ontario education workers to walk off the job.

National media reports that CUPE and the province are expected to return to mediated talks Wednesday morning, after CUPE presented its latest offer. “We have been advised that CUPE will not picket schools,” the statement added. “While we remain hopeful that a provincial resolution will be achieved, parents/guardians are encouraged to make alternative childcare arrangements should job action continue.

Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon said in a message posted to its Facebook page that the board’s schools, although it added the proviso that the situation may change in the coming days and weeks.
