Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, the provincial commissioner of police, addressed the incident on Saturday, highlighting its viral spread on social media. Posts alleged the arrest of a Vhembe district CPF member for sexually assaulting his stepdaughter. The police clarified that the member is not the deputy secretary, as previously reported online.
Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, a police spokesperson, confirmed a rape case filed at the Tshilwavhusiku Police Station. The victim, the stepdaughter, claimed she was raped by her stepfather and threatened with death if she disclosed the assault. The suspect was arrested on Thursday and appeared in court on Friday, where the case was postponed until January 13, 2025, for further investigation. He remains in custody. General Hadebe expressed satisfaction with the swift police action and emphasized the importance of the law taking its course impartially. This arrest follows a recent case in Eastern Cape, where a 30-year-old man was sentenced to 20 years for raping his 13-year-old stepdaughter
