The North Gauteng High Court has dismissed Shauwn Mkhize's application seeking assurance of Royal AM FC's financial stability to play in tournaments. Commissioner Kieswetter welcomes the decision, emphasizing the importance of taxpayers meeting their obligations.

Edward Kieswetter, the Commissioner of SARS (South African Revenue Service), has expressed satisfaction with the North Gauteng High Court 's decision against Royal AM FC. The court dismissed Shauwn Mkhize 's urgent application seeking a letter from the club's curator assuring the National Soccer League ( NSL ) of its financial stability to participate in matches. Royal AM FC has faced repeated suspensions from the Betway Premiership and Nedbank Cup tournaments due to financial difficulties.

Mkhize's application, filed on January 29th, aimed to compel the curator to issue a letter of comfort to the NSL, guaranteeing the club's financial capability. The club also sought to review the curator's decision to withhold the letter, arguing it was irrational, unreasonable, and unlawful. Alternatively, they requested the court to allow them to complete the remaining league and cup games. However, the court ruled that the application lacked urgency and dismissed it with costs. Commissioner Kieswetter lauded the decision, emphasizing that taxpayers should fulfill their obligations. He stated that SARS is mandated to administer the law impartially and ensure all taxpayers register, file, and pay their taxes diligently. The court found that the urgency claimed by the club was self-created, as they were aware of their financial situation and the curator's inability to provide the letter well before filing the application. Previous court rulings against Royal AM FC and Mkhize's Shandi Trust, concerning unpaid player salaries, further strengthened SARS's case. Meanwhile, the Msunduzi Municipality, facing pressure to withdraw its R27 million three-year sponsorship deal, has withheld the second installment of R9 million due to the club's failure to meet contractual obligations, including submitting a financial report. The DA has filed an application to have the sponsorship contract canceled, setting the stage for a court battle on February 28th. DA councillor Ross Strachan argues that the contract was awarded unlawfully and seeks to hold the municipality accountable for its decision. The court case will likely shed light on the details of the sponsorship deal and its implications for the city and its ratepayers
