Keep Recycling Local says Council going to 'take a backwards step in its recycling policy' and could be ordered to reverse it
A Northern Ireland recycling campaign group has warned Lisburn & Castlereagh to reverse its new bin collection policy or face putting an unnecessary high cost on ratepayers.
The policy, which was decided behind closed doors in council last January, will increase co-mingled recycling bin size and decrease the capacity of household waste bins. "With so much focus being placed on meeting our climate obligations, promoting a circular economy and reducing waste, it just doesn’t make sense.
KRL has requested a meeting with Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council but it is understood by the Local Democracry Service that the local authority has declined.
