Boys basketball: College Park outlasts The Woodlands in OT thriller
The Woodlands guard Joseph Hauser reacts after stealing the ball from College Park guard Aiden Buckmon in the first quarter of a District 13-6A high school basketball game at The Woodlands High School, Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2022, in The Woodlands.THE WOODLANDS — Whispers of College Park’s early demise this season may have been a bit premature.
Both teams are 4-1 in 13-6A play. The loss ended a four-game win streak for the Highlanders and brought a sense of redemption to the 15-4 Cavaliers, whose 70-62 loss to Grand Oaks that snapped a 31-game district win streak in late November raised some eyebrows. Tied 60-60 going into overtime, the Cavaliers made seven of eight free throws in the extra session to win it. The Highlanders, meanwhile, made both of their free throws in overtime and missed all four of their 3-point tries.
College Park’s Zane Cooper made all three free throws after being fouled on a 3-pointer with 27 seconds left, and The Woodlands answered right back on Aden Dominguez’s 3-pointer from the left corner to knot the game once again with 9.6 seconds remaining. In overtime, College Park put its foot down at the free-throw line.
