The rivals met Monday for the first time since District 13-6A tiebreaker last February.

The Woodlands' Regina Contreras drives around College Park's Katie Westwood, left, during their District 13-6A girls basketball game at College Park High School Monday, Dec. 19, 2022 in The Woodlands, TX.THE WOODLANDS — Going into the holiday break, the College Park Cavaliers have a lot to be pleased about.

“We talked about it a little bit, but we try to leave the past in the past and learn from it,” College Park coach Shayna Brown said. “But we also talked about how this is what kept us from the playoffs. It was early on when we lost at their place in overtime and caused the play-in game. We just wanted to make sure we protect our home court and go into the break 4-1.”

“It’s been a long time coming ,” Brown said. “We’ve started a couple games strong – 6-0, 7-0 – but nothing like the first today. I just think it was a full team effort. Everybody wanted it.” College Park senior Gracie Garcia hit a 3-pointer and went on a personal 7-0 run to start the second quarter as the Cavaliers led 22-10.The Woodlands went on a 4-0 run to end the half as Tehya Rubio banked in a shot at the buzzer.“The younger girls bring a lot of energy,” Davis said. “That’s the best part about being able to go to them on the bench.”
