In a statement released on Thursday morning, Makhubele said that she had resigned from SARA, an organisation she played a huge part in establishing.

JOHANNESBURG - Former South African Rainbow Alliance leader, Colleen Makhubele, has joined the uMkhonto weSizwe Party.

SARA had a disappointing showing in the recent general elections, failing to get even one seat nationally and in the two provinces they contested. Makhubele says she did not join the MK Party for positions citing she has skills to offer the organisation. Before joining politics, Makhubele worked in both the private and public sector, focusing largely on information and communication technologies. However, she only held the position for a couple of months before being fired by the SAPO board for bringing the state-owned entity into disrepute.
